Peoples Democratic Party has rejected the appointment of Mrs. Amina Zakari as the Acting National Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on the claims that she is too close to the Presidency.
National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh, stated the party's position during a press conference in Abuja.
According to him Zakari has been alleged to be too close to the Presidency and one of the governors of the All Progressives Congress from the North-West.
Zakari was appointed yesterday by President Muhammadu Buhari as the acting boss of the commission, following the expiration of the tenure of Prof. Attahiru Jega.
The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mr. Danladi Kifasi, who conveyed the appointment in a letter, said the appointment was with immediate effect until the appointment of a substantive Chairman.
Although before her appointment, Jega had handed over to Amb. Mohammed Wali, a national commissioner of the commission from Sokoto State.
