The latest Tom Cruise action flick brought in $20.3 million on Friday, a record opening day for the Mission: Impossible series. A total of $52.6 million is expected for the full weekend. That's more than triple the $14 million another sequel film, Vacation, is likely to bring in.
Still, despite that low number, Vacation is eyeing the number two spot. Former chart-topper Ant-Man stands at a potential $12.4 million for third place. Minions is right behind for fourth with a projected $12.1 million.
At a possible $10.4 million, the disappointing Adam Sandler movie Pixels would take the five spot. Trainwreck could be next for number six with $9.7 million. And if Southpaw rakes in $8 million, the boxing epic would be at seventh.
Low grosses are expected to round out the Top 10. Paper Towns only has estimated receipts of $4.8 million for its second weekend, putting it number eight. It's only followed by the hugely successful Inside Out and Jurassic World, which may add another $4.3 million and $3.6 million to their respective pots after several weeks of release.
