According to the latest report, Straight Outta Compton is likely to win box office for the third weekend.
As earlier reported, the biopic about the rise and fall of N.W.A. crushed its competition when it opened earlier this month. The critically-acclaimed film went on to take the number one spot at the box office again last weekend, and is now likely to do so for the third week in a row. The figures, however, are much smaller than previously, with only $12.6 million expected in receipts.
But with nine other low-performing movies, Straight Outta Compton is the favorite to triumph. Interestingly, though, the biggest surprise this week is what's in the number two spot. War Room, a little-known Christian film, has shocked analysts by amassing an estimated and unpredicted $10.2 million. It's now looking at a second-place finish.
Meanwhile, Owen Wilson, playing against type in the new dramatic thriller No Escape, will probably see his film settle for the bronze at $7.6 million. Also with a possible $7.6 million, Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation is set to follow in fourth. And Man From U.N.C.L.E could nab fifth if it brings in $4.2 million.
Sinsister 2 is currently trailing right behind and also rounding to $4.2 million, with only a small difference putting it at number six. Eyeing seventh, Hitman: Agent 47 may have box office totals of $3.9 million. Potentially rounding out the Top 10 are more holdovers: The Gift ($2.9 million), Jurassic World ($2.8 million), and Ant-Man ($2.7 million).
