Earlier today, there was a report that "Straight Outta Compton" might top box office this weekend and it's later officially did. The highly-anticipated biopic, which tells the origins of N.W.A., easily opened in first place this weekend. Straight Outta Compton earned $56.1 million for the weekend.
That was more than triple the $17 million last week's chart-topper Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation brought in for second place. The big-screen adaptation of The Man From U.N.C.L.E, starring Henry Cavill and Armie Hammer, nabbed third place, with a disappointing $13.5 million in ticket sales.
Fantastic Four, which had its own lackluster opening last week, landed in the number four spot with $8 million. And The Gift secured fifth place with $6.5 million.
Rounding out the Top 10 were Paul Rudd's Ant-Man with $5.5 million, followed in seventh place by Vacation with $5.3 million. Minions came in eighth with $5.2 million, while the Meryl Streep-starrer Ricki And The Flash took ninth place with $4.6 million. Just making the Top 10 in the final spot was Amy Schumer's Trainwreck with $3.8 million.
